Making a start

As part of a Vibrant Arts Corporate event, Ronnie was invited to be Artist in Residence at Xpand‘s Human Resources Flipper Forum in the Butting Akademie in Knesebeck in Germany.

Over the two days of the conference he undertook a painting which reflected his impressions of the ambience of the 300-year-old building.

Ronnie chose to reflect the yellow of the Butting Akademie building’s exterior against the wonderful greens and shadows of its forest setting. A small part of the architecture peeks through the trees on the top right corner.

Having studied the Butting Akademie’s values before actually visiting the site, he had had the idea of painting a figure which represented those values.

Thanks to Monique for modelling, with her wonderful red hair which symbolises the copper for which the Butting company is famous. The white skin and flowers are representative of purity and truth.

The next stage was to stencil on, in copper, some of the important values of the company. These words appear in copper on the door of every room in the building – the House of Cooperation – valuing truth, teamwork, honesty, courage, openness, willingness to serve, creativity and flexibility to name a few.

Finishing Touches

Finishing Touches

Ronnie left one small part of the painting unfinished for the evening performance. While the Vibrant Arts Band played a selection of new and vibrant pieces they had composed reflecting their musical feelings about Butting Akademie, Ronnie unveiled the painting and proceeded to paint live with the music to finish off the beautiful piece. The audience was delighted. The final painting was presented to the Butting Akademie as a gift for their collection. The evening performance was further enhanced by a spontaneous mime performance by Xpand trainer Krysztof Najdowski who blew the audience and artists away with his talent.

Butting Impressions

The following day it was the turn of the participants to be creative with paint. Ronnie introduced his session with a whirlwind history of art, a short demonstration of techniques and an encouragement that in art there are no wrongs. The participants could not believe how fast an hour-and-a-half could fly by. They each completed at least two successful abstract pieces which they took away with them.

It was a joyous experience for all involved and Carol and Ronnie would like to thank everyone at the Butting Akademie for exceptional hospitality.
